In the UK we are no stranger to bad winter weather. Storms are expected during the winter months, and many of them can be quite large and cause a lot of damage. As winter is now here, there are some things that you can do to protect yourself and your home from the worst of the winter storms – here are some of them…
Keep up to Date – When storms are on their way, the Met office will update and put out a weather warning to notify the public. Make sure that you keep an eye on this at the met office site or listen to your local radio station which will also give you up to date weather warnings. They will also advise you on travel, as well as how to keep yourself safe during periods of bad weather.
Prepare your Home – Making sure that your home is prepared for the stormy weather is important – there are lots of things that you can do to protect it. For example, if there is damage to your roof, repair it with something like these CT1 roof sealants, which can stop the damage from getting worse. It is also a good idea to ensure fences are in good repair as they are often blown down in storms.
Clear out Gutters and Drains – As well as strong winds, storms can also cause flooding. Making sure that your drains and gutters are clear of any debris can help to reduce your flood risk.
