How to teach your teenager about safe phone use

Most teenagers today have a mobile and whilst this can mean that they are able to stay in contact with their families when they are out and about which gives them added security, it is also important that once they have been bought a new phone from a Vodafone Mullingar company like King communications that you talk through the ways in which they can use it in a safe way. Here are some ideas for you.

  • Set ground rules – letting your children know that you have their safety at the forefront of your mind means letting them know what the rules are around its use. This can be the times when they are allowed to be on it, the apps that are permitted and not allowing them to have their phones in their rooms before bed. Make sure that you set these rules for the household as well. This could be that no mobile phones are to be used at dinner time, that all devices are charged together at night out of the bedrooms and when you are talking to someone you put down your phone.

  • Costs – children and teenagers can easily rack up high bills if they are unaware that certain functions cost money. You can ask your mobile phone company to set a spending limit on their phones, this can be set amount per month or you can set it to 0.
  • Physical protection – accidents happen so make sure you have their phone insured and have a screen protector put on and ask them to keep their phone in a case.
