Ways to Drive That can Save Fuel

Saving on fuel is not only something that is beneficial for the environment, but also for your finances too. If you are running a business and have a fleet of vehicles, whether it is company cars or delivery vans, one of the best ways to save money is to cut your fuel costs.

There are numerous ways to do this – of course you can use software that is designed to plan routes more efficiently, as well as using things like Allstar fuel cards from Fuel card services.

But a lot of the savings on fuel come from the drivers themselves, and educating them on the ways that they can drive to be more fuel efficient – here are some examples…

Closing the Windows – On a warm day it is tempting to open the windows to let fresh air in to circulate – however this is not great for fuel efficiency. At lower speeds it is not much of a difference but on a motorway at higher speed it is. This is because it affects the aerodynamics of the vehicle, making it need more fuel to power it as the drag increases.

Avoid Rapid Acceleration – Although often when at work we are in a hurry to get around quickly, harsh acceleration can cost more in fuel. Pull away slowly and smoothly rather than racing off as if at the start of the Grand Prix!

Don’t Use the Air Con as Much – Although the weather can be changeable and sometimes awful in the UK, it is important not to leave the air con on all the time, as this uses quite a lot of fuel. If it is not too hot or freezing cold, try to leave the air con off.
