What is it like to live in the coldest town?

Can you imagine what it’s like living in the coldest places on earth? You might think they are uninhabitable but there are pretty tough folk out there who are prepared to make a life for themselves in these frozen tundras.

One of the coldest places on earth is Oymyakon in Russia. When the annual freeze occurs, temperatures here can dip to incredible lows of -68 degrees Celsius! This was the coldest temperature ever recorded in a place that is inhabited by humans. So, how do they survive?

Due to the proximity of the Arctic Circle, sometimes daylight can be as short as just 3 hours. The residents, who number around 500, live off reindeer and horse meat predominantly as the ground is always frozen! Wild berries can be picked at some points of the year. The residents here have to leave their car engines running all the time or they would simply freeze! However, the people here still go to fish markets, ride bikes and even go swimming!

To avoid feeling like you live in Oymyakon, make sure your boiler is running well with an annual gas check. For any problems, consider Boiler Repair Belfast from Belfast Gas

Thankfully, the people here do enjoy a warmer season and in the summer, it can get quite warm! The winters might be extreme but the region is stunningly beautiful. There are hot springs close to the town that mean areas of water stay unfrozen for fishing to take place. Otherwise, it would probably be almost impossible to survive here.
