Is Copper Environmentally Friendly?

Copper is a naturally-occurring element found in the earth’s crust, the oceans, lakes and rivers. It is also an essential nutrient for humans, plants, fish, and animals. Many household and industrial appliances use copper such as plumbing systems and Copper Pipe Connectors. Visit https://watkinspowis.co.uk/products/copper-pipe-fittings-and-press-systems/ to find out more about these uses.  Needless to say, copper has a huge presence in our lives and due to the following reasons I will highlight, copper is environmentally friendly.

Firstly, copper is naturally present in all types of environments such as in water, sediments and soil. As a material, it is versatile and what makes it truly environmentally friendly is that it is fully recyclable, resistant to corrosion and durable. This makes it an ideal eco-friendly alternative to plastic, especially as plastic contains toxic chemicals. Copper is not carcinogenic, and nor is it toxicant.

Another reason that copper is environmentally friendly is that copper helps reduce harmful carbon emissions. It has an essential role in renewable energy systems, including solar, wind, tidal, hydro, biomass, and geothermal energy systems. Copper is the most thermal and electrical conductor of all other metals used in manufacturing.

Whilst copper is positively environmentally friendly, the production of products with copper can produce greenhouse emissions. However, the copper industry is fortunately mindful of this and companies like Watkins & Powis strive to protect the environment by reducing emissions. Climate change is close to reaching a point of no return so now more than ever, we must make big changes to our methods of production and what materials we use.
