Signs that a person may need care

April 22, 2020 11:51 am

As a parent or loved one ages, you may need to consider what is best for their living arrangements. There are a variety of options, such as home care and assisted living which are most common. Assisted living facilities are designed housing options for people who need assistance with the general activities but who do not need a lot of medical treatments daily. Another popular option with many people is care in their own home.

If you suspect that your loved one is no longer safe living alone, ask yourself these questions:

1.Have they fallen recently?

If the person falls again, how long might they be alone before they receive assistance? Some falls, especially if your loved one cannot get help, are a sign that it’s time for some more help of the type that comes from assisted living facilities or live in care. 1. Do they take longer to recover after illness or injury?

This could be a sign of a weakened immune system and can tell you that they would require more urgent treatment. Talk to their doctor if you feel worried. Having a full-time carer in assisted living facilities or live in care can greatly improve their health.

  1. Is the person suffering from chronic health problems which are only getting worse?

If they do, it may be time to move them into an assisted living facility or nursing home. If they are strong enough, they could be involved in the choice and might welcome the opportunity to socialize and meet other people.
