Ideas for storing your knitting needles

Keeping knitting needles tidy can be a pain, quite literally, but we have the solution with five handy ideas to keep your knitting needles organised.

Pencil case

A pencil case is a very handy receptacle for knitting needles when not in use. The needles can be zipped up and are easy to slip into your bag if you fancy doing some knitting on the go; in fact, according to Prima magazine, it is even possible to take knitting needles onto a plane.

DIY tubes

You can make a straightforward needle container out of old cardboard tubes, jars, or cylindrical tins. Use a rubber band to hold same-sized needles together and you will be able to reach straight for the ones you need.

Fabric rolls

A fabric organiser has individual pockets to store needles and can be rolled up to take up minimum space. Fabric organisers are small and light, so they are a good idea if you want to take your knitting out and about. If you are handy with a sewing needle, you could even make your own version.

Knitting bag

A knitting bag is a good way to store needles when you have a work in progress. They are roomy and will keep your needles and wool out of the way and organised. Again, you could always try knitting your own. If you are a beginner, a bag knitting kit from a stockist such as www.woolcouturecompany.com will give you everything you need to get started.

Folder

An A4 ring binder can make a convenient needle holder, especially for circular needles. Put one needle in each plastic wallet and you will be able to easily flip between them.

Keeping your needles tidy makes it easy to get on with your next project.
