How does trauma affect our bodies

Physical bodily pain is another experience that people have after they have suffered trauma. There are many ways in which they can experience this physical pain and here are a few examples of what it might be. In all cases there must be treatment, patience and empathy shown to sufferers to ensure that they are able to come through this period as quickly as possible. Trauma informed practice training can help this process like that from www.tidaltraining.co.uk/mental-health-courses/trauma-informed-practice-training.

As it is to be expected, physical pain is a natural side effect of trauma. This can take the form of stomach back and headache pain but is also  possible with muscular pain in other parts of the body as well. This creates a sense of  fatigue and tiredness in the person suffering from  the trauma. Unfortunately it also means that the healing process is severely delayed.  Further to the problem physical trauma also has a way of affecting sleep. So, even though the person feels extremely tired they are unable to get the rest they require at night.

These lead on to other issues. Increased heart rate is one of the most common effects. This can in turn create even more sense of anxiety leading to even more trauma. Other factors include problems with the digestive system. If food is not able to be processed correctly then this can also create problems. This also leads to a weakened immune system and possible abuse of substances.

These factors  combined can lead to a much larger issue.
