How to turn your home into a winter wonderland

We all see the beautiful Christmas displays in shops, garden centres and on the television and want to re-create it for our own home. Of course, most of us can’t afford to spend a fortune on luxury Christmas items that make up a lot of these displays. But there are many ways of turning your home into a magical winter wonderland and not spending your entire Christmas budget on it… Whether you live in one of the Gloucestershire Park Homes provided by http://www.parkhomelife.com or a mansion in London these tips will help.

Fairy Lights

Twinkling festive lights are one of the easiest and best places to start. They aren’t very expensive and come in all sorts of colours and styles to suit whatever theme or colour scheme you have in mind. They transform the mood in a room to feel Christmassy, so don’t just confine fairy lights to the Christmas tree. Hang them around the edges of the room, on the ceilings, and another very effective use for them is to bundle them up, place them in a large vase and turn them on to create a beautiful table centerpiece. Battery powered one’s work better for this, as you don’t want wires trailing across the table! Of course, be careful with fairy lights and make sure that you don’t leave them on when unattended.

Statement Pieces

Don’t think you should go to a department store and buy the entire Christmas range that they have – you don’t! A few statement pieces can achieve a festive look, and you can team it with what you already own, tie it into the theme of your room. For example, if you have a green themed dining room with lots of wood, embrace it – how about a festive centerpiece incorporating the colours that you have in the room, think of a festive forest theme perhaps, and make it the focus point. You will be surprised by how little you must do to make a room look festive if it ties in with the surroundings, you certainly don’t have to invest in every single piece of Christmas crockery there is to offer!

Get Creative

If you are willing to spend a little time, then you will save a lot of money! There are all sorts of things that you can make, rather than buy, and if you are good at it, why not also think of making people some gifts too? Make your own Christmas Cushions to scatter around the place – see this tutorial for how to do it. To help you create a beautiful house, nature can offer plenty of great ideas. You can collect seasonal items such as pine cones, twigs and sticks, and plants such as holly to make pretty festive displays for your home.
