Making connections in a new neighbourhood

Moving into a new neighbourhood can be daunting, especially if you don’t know anyone in the area. You have many opportunities every day to say hello to new neighbours and to see what happens. You’ll meet at least one person if you have a dog, children to play with, a garden or errands you need to run. If they say hello, smile, and you are new to the area, let them know.

If you have moved into a new area such as the Park Homes offered by companies like Park Home Life there will be plenty of opportunities to connect with your neighbours and they are great places to build up a network of people who are in a similar situation to yours. They also tend to have activities that go on in the parks and groups that meet regularly, which can be another great place to make friends.

Groups are great for building new friendships and allowing you to meet like-minded people. These groups can be based around a joint interest such as crafting groups, book clubs and exercise groups.

Get out and explore your new neighborhood. Visit a family-run local restaurant. Register for a class at a local community centre. Attend a local am-dram society or a local sporting team event. You will become more visible to the community and encourage people to visit you. Participation shows that you are interested in the community. Helping others is a great way to show your support.
