Oak beams are traditionally used in residential construction to provide solid, square beams used to support buildings such as an Oak Roof Truss. Oak is well known as a hardwood with outstanding resistance to the elements and to normal wear and tear. Oak beams are cut on a fine-tipped saw with a fine cut edge and then stocked in standard sizes, typically 105mm, 155mm, 205mm, 255mm, and 305mm square for standard framing applications. Lengths can vary from two to eight foot lengths, but note that not all sizes will be available in all dimensions.

Wood beams and timbers in general are great building components that provide character to a home and lend the building its strength. Wood is a natural building material with natural features that create warm and rich colors when seasoned and finished. Oak wood is famous for its resistance to the elements and to everyday wear and tear. The colour of oak beams can be dark brown to almost black with visible grain and knots. The texture of oak posts and beams can also vary with some being very smooth while others are rougher and more knotty.
